WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement in support of the Congressional Black Caucus’ letter urging leaders of Corporate America to reaffirm their commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the workplace:
“I commend Chair Horsford and the Congressional Black Caucus for continuing to guide America’s path toward racial and economic justice. Critical to this mission is closing the racial wealth gap — a goal that cannot be achieved without the partnership of Corporate America. We must ensure that the rhetoric used after the murder of George Floyd continues to translate into concrete action. As the CBC has detailed, this means CEOs must honor their commitments to DEI, meaningfully support and invest in employees of color, and collaborate with Congress in our legislative efforts to advance equity.
“African Americans continue to face systemic barriers to economic opportunity — from a lack of representation in senior executive roles to significantly lower wages compared to white colleagues. At the same time, MAGA Republicans are seeking to worsen these inequities — waging a crusade against equality, diversity, and fairness in America's workplaces.
“We all have a role to play in ending racism and ensuring all Americans have a fair shot at success — as lawmakers, business leaders, and citizens. I thank the CBC for continuing to lead the way forward.”
