Clark appointed to House Appropriations Committee

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Katherine Clark (MA-5) has been appointed to the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations. The Committee is responsible for all of the federal government’s spending priorities. As one of five exclusive committees  in Congress, the House Committee on Appropriations debates and sets specific amounts for all discretionary federal spending on all federal agencies and programs.

“How we spend our resources is a reflection of our values,” said Clark. “Whether it’s by fighting for investments in American families, job creation through investments in roads, bridges and renewable energy infrastructure, or research and development to make scientific breakthroughs possible, I’m eager to serve the Commonwealth and our country as a member of the Appropriations Committee.”

Katherine Clark Bio:

Congresswoman Katherine Clark serves the Fifth District of Massachusetts. She was first elected in a special election in December of 2013.  In Congress, she brings her experience as a state senator, state representative, general counsel for the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services, and policy chief for the state attorney general.

In the U.S. House, Clark has passed a number of bipartisan bills and proposals related to fighting the opioid crisis, strengthening educational opportunity for vulnerable students , strengthening women’s health programs, and investing in early education.

Clark has also been a leader in gun safety reform, leading the Democratic gun violence sit-in in 2016 alongside Congressman John Lewis.

Through her work on battling online abuse, Clark has been recognized as a prominent voice in keeping online spaces and the online economy free and open to everyone.

Clark also serves on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and is a Senior Whip for the Democratic Caucus.

Clark resides in Melrose, Massachusetts with her husband and three boys.
