MALDEN, MA — Yesterday, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) led House Democrats in a nationwide “Save Social Security Day of Action,” meeting with seniors across Massachusetts' Fifth District to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Social Security and underscore the continued fight to protect this vital lifeline.

Whip Clark visited the caregivers and seniors at Mystic Valley Elder Services to honor the organization’s 50-year commitment to supporting older adults and equipping caregivers with essential resources.

Later, she had lunch with staff from Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services, where she learned more about their supportive living care and discussed her efforts to push back against Republicans’ plot to dismantle Social Security through their Big, Ugly Law.

“Social Security is the most successful government program in American history. For 90 years, it has honored a straightforward promise: After a lifetime of hard work, every person in the richest nation on earth can and should retire with dignity,” said Democratic Whip Katherine Clark. “Today, Democrats are making it clear: We will not allow Social Security to be dismantled just to further enrich the wealthy few. The American people deserve better than this. ”

“Mystic Valley Elder Services is honored to celebrate 90 years of Social Security, which serves as a lifeline for over 69 million older adults and people with disabilities throughout our nation. Our team is proud to work with individuals and families to ensure that they can access the Social Security benefits needed to age with dignity and independence throughout our communities," said Lisa Gurgone, Chief Executive Officer for Mystic Valley Elder Services.

"For 90 years, Social Security has been a lifeline for older adults, providing critical financial stability and preserving dignity in retirement. It is also one of the most effective anti-poverty programs in the U.S., helping low-income seniors access essential resources to live safely and independently in their communities. Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services is committed to supporting federal advocacy efforts to protect and strengthen Social Security for generations to come," said Marta Corvêlo, President & CEO, Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services.
