May 8, 2018, Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Katherine Clark released the following statement regarding President Trump’s announcement that the United States will leave the Iran Nuclear Agreement:

“The number one responsibility of the President is to protect our nation’s security. Instead, President Trump’s announcement to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement has put the United States in danger. By walking away, Trump has abandoned our allies with whom we negotiated the deal, undermined our credibility, weakened our position at the negotiating table, and threatened the security of our nation, our allies in the Middle East, and our partners. This decision was made without regard to facts or merit. He has no plan on how to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon or curtail its ballistic missile program—all on the eve of nuclear negotiations with North Korea. Trump’s reckless behavior is threatening the security and prosperity of the American people.”
