“I cannot, in good conscience, write a blank check to an administration that has separated families, put kids in cages, and left toddlers stranded in parking lots. Children have died in the U.S. government’s care, and this bill fails to include the safeguards we need to keep these children safe.

“The House worked diligently to draft and pass a bill that dedicated sorely needed resources to ensure border security while enacting commonsense oversight provisions to protect migrant families. By refusing to honor the House’s priorities, Senate Republicans are turning their backs on the children who need our protection.

“The situation at our border is dire, and we cannot let today’s vote be the end of the conversation. We need to put regulations in place that ensure every person coming to our doors is treated with dignity.”
