Washington, D.C. – Today, Assistant Speaker Clark released the below statement upon passage of the Independent, Bipartisan Commission on the January 6^th Attack by the U.S. House of Representatives:

“January 6, 2021 was one of the darkest days in American history. A violent mob fueled by lies, hate, and white supremacy brought death, injury and terror to the Capitol. The insurrectionists threatened the very core of our democracy, and that is why we need a full accounting of what transpired and a bipartisan, independent Commission to memorialize the truth for the American people.

“The formation of this Commission is an act of patriotism, not partisanship. Republican leaders have shamefully chosen Donald Trump over our democracy. Their decision to oppose this Commission is a continuation of their lies about the election and presents an ongoing danger to our democracy. I call on the Senate to join the House and vote in support of the Commission and move our country forward.”
