WASHINGTON, D.C. — Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement on Congresswoman Kathy Manning (NC-6) announcing that she will retire from the House at the end of the term:

“North Carolina Republicans have done an extraordinary disservice to the people of the Sixth Congressional District. Their shamelessly gerrymandered district map suppresses the voices of everyday people in favor of a few extremist politicians. I am heartbroken this means Congresswoman Kathy Manning will not be running for re-election.

“Since her first day in Washington, Congresswoman Manning has been a steadfast champion for families and freedom. I have been proud to call her a partner in House Democrats’ work to expand early childhood education and protect reproductive freedom. After the Dobbs decision, she jumped into action and introduced the Right to Contraception Act — standing up for a woman’s basic right to control her own body.

“As Vice Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Congresswoman Manning has faced burgeoning global crises with vision and savvy. And as Co-Chair of the House Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, she has offered essential leadership in the fight against hate.

“I’m deeply grateful for Kathy’s time in Congress, and I wish her all the best in what comes next.”
