WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement in celebration of International Women's Day.
“Across America and around the globe, women and girls are leading the fight for a more just future. From Texas to Tehran, advocates and everyday Americans are standing up to extremist politicians who seek to undermine freedom, erode progress, and relegate women to second-class citizenship. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, their courage and commitment to equality fuel us forward in the struggle to stamp out injustice.
“While a record number of women now serve in the House and Senate – an achievement that ensures Congress better reflects the people it represents – the fight for equality still rages in America. Republicans are openly seeking to enact a national abortion ban while refusing to support maternal health care, pay equity, paid family leave, and affordable, accessible child care. Their MAGA agenda is a dangerous assault on the ability of women and working families to lead safe, secure, and healthy lives.
“The march to equality will not yield. Today, and every day, House Democrats are fighting to build the world that our daughters deserve – one where all women are valued, respected, and celebrated.”
