Clark Joins President Obama for Pay Equity Policy Authorization

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Katherine Clark joined President Obama as he authorized federal policies aimed at closing the wage gap between men and women. The president issued an executive order directing federal contractors to implement a provision of the Paycheck Fairness Act barring retaliation against employees who discuss their pay with each other. The president has also directed the Department of Labor to acquire data from federal contractors intended to identify income disparities based on gender and race. 

In a January letter, Clark joined other Democratic women in the House urging the president to adopt these measures as a necessary step in addressing the wage inequalities that exist between women and men.

“Today, women are achieving higher levels of education than men and are succeeding in every level of our workforce,” said Clark. “There’s no reason why women should still make 77 cents to every dollar a man makes for doing equal work. I’m pleased and grateful that President Obama has taken this significant step towards paycheck fairness. Now, the House should ensure the economic success of women and families by passing the Paycheck Fairness Act.”
