Washington, DC — Today, Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) released the following statements to mark the month of Ramadan, which begins tonight at sunset. Ramadan is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar for Muslims, who spend their days fasting from sunrise to sunset, giving charity, and engaging in worship and reflection.

Congresswoman Katherine Clark (MA-05):

“Ramadan Mubarak to the Muslim community in Massachusetts and around the world! As we enter this season of reflection and renewal, I am hopeful that this Ramadan will be a reminder for us all of the values that faith teaches: hope, compassion, and community.”

CAPAC Chair Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27):

“Ramadan Mubarak to the billions of Muslims who are celebrating here and around the globe. This holy month is a time for family and fasting, reflection and devotion, sacrifice and generosity – values that the Muslim community embodies everyday, and are also shared across many other faiths and serve to emphasize our connections to each other. These shared values remind us that while we are a proudly diverse country, we also have so much in common. I hope this holy month brings all who practice fulfilling spiritual reflection that comes with added strength, peace, and wisdom.”

Congresswoman Grace Meng (NY-06), CAPAC First Vice-Chair:

"I send my warmest wishes to the Muslim community in Queens, across the nation, and around the world as we mark the beginning of Ramadan. Ramadan, which is the holiest month of the Islamic calendar, is a time of fasting, spiritual reflection, and performing charitable acts. I hope that everyone celebrating has a month full of blessings, renewal, and time with loved ones. Ramadan Mubarak to all those who celebrate!"

Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-33), CAPAC Whip:

“I am sending warm wishes to Muslim communities across CA-33 and the world who celebrate Ramadan. Ramadan is a meaningful time of peace, renewal and reflection. It is also a special time to celebrate the many contributions Muslim Americans have made to our great nation. May this month bring hope and prosperity to all who worship. Ramadan Mubarak!”

Senator Mazie Hirono (HI):

“I would like to extend my warmest aloha to the Muslim community as they begin this month of reflection and growth. Ramadan offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of family, faith, and community, all of which have helped so many of us navigate the difficulty and uncertainty of the past few years. I hope that friends and family, especially those who may have spent the last two years apart, are able to safely come together again, and that this month brings peace and happiness to all who celebrate. Ramadan Mubarak!”

Congressman Al Green (TX-09):

“On behalf of myself and the constituents of the Ninth Congressional District of Texas, I extend my warmest wishes to everyone observing the holy month of Ramadan. I hope this blessed month of fasting brings you closer to your faith and community, gives you time for spiritual reflection, and allows you to celebrate with your loved ones. Ramadan Mubarak!”

Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (WA-07):

“As Muslims all over the country mark the beginning of Ramadan, let us remember what the holy month means for millions of Muslims around the world. It is the most sacred and joyous time of the year; a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, compassion, and gratitude. Through their fast, Muslims renew their faith, seek forgiveness, and bring their hearts closer to the plight of those who are without. Ramadan is also a time of community, and while the pandemic has prevented the celebratory gatherings Ramadan is known for, I hope that our Muslim friends this year can gather around for iftar with good food, family, and friends. Ramadan Mubarak Saeed!”

Congressman Ro Khanna (CA-17):

“Ramadan Mubarak to all those celebrating in CA-17 and around the world. I hope this month is a time for reflection, peace, and gratitude.”

Congressman Andy Kim (NJ-03):

"As the Islamic Calendar passes to the ninth month and the crescent moon appears, I hope all Muslims in New Jersey and around the world have an easy fast. May the month be filled with spiritual growth, personal reflection, and a reaffirmation of shared values like peace, service to one another, and inclusivity. Ramadan Mubarak!"

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13):

“Ramadan Mubarak to our Muslim community in the East Bay and around the world! Our vibrant, diverse Muslim communities are essential to the American fabric. This is a Holy Month of reflection, prayer, fasting, and celebration with friends and family. I wish everyone who celebrates a joyous time of peace and prosperity with your loved ones and within your communities.”

Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10):

“Ramadan is a celebration of spiritual renewal, family gatherings, charitable activities, and giving thanks. I am particularly grateful for the Muslim community's contributions throughout the South Sound and across our nation. These past couple of years, we have witnessed neighbors stepping up to help their communities, families finding ways to come together, and everyone working towards coming out of these trying times together. This holy season is a reminder of the power of hope, even in the darkest of times. Ramadan Mubarak!”

Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (MI-12):

“My best wishes to all in Michigan’s 12th district and across the country who are observing the holy month of Ramadan. This is a time for our Muslim friends and neighbors to reflect on the values of gratitude and compassion, which are critical for our humanity. May this holy month be filled with peace and spiritual renewal for all. Ramadan Mubarak!”

Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY-12):

“Today I wish the Muslim community in NY-12 and around the world a blessed start of Ramadan. I am thrilled that this Ramadan can once again be celebrated with face-to-face festivities, and that family and friends can safely connect after two challenging years that have limited gatherings. May this holy month of prayer and fasting be filled with peace, reflection, and spiritual rejuvenation.”

Congressman Adam Smith (WA-09):

“Today marks the beginning of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar and the holy month of fasting. During this holy season of celebration and contemplation, I wish the many Muslims who call Washington’s Ninth home a peaceful month of reflection and prayer. It remains an honor to represent the many diverse religious communities in Washington’s Ninth, including the vibrant Muslim community. To all those celebrating this blessed holiday, Ramadan Mubarak!”

Congressman David Trone (MD-06):

“I want to take this opportunity to wish Ramadan Mubarak to all Marylanders who are observing! Ramadan is a time of prayer, reflection, and community. Even though these last two years have been hard, I hope you get a chance to reflect on how strong our community is. Maryland’s Muslim communities have embodied hope, resilience, and a true spirit of service during these challenging times. I hope that this holy month is one of restfulness, growth, and reflection.”
