Clark: Republicans crafted a cruel bill to benefit the ultra-wealthy
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Katherine Clark rejected the House Republican budget citing its devastating effects to the Commonwealth’s economy and America’s most vulnerable families. Clark released the following statement:
“Instead of listening to the needs and priorities of hardworking families at home, House Republicans chose to draft a backwards budget that hands out billions of dollars in tax breaks to big corporations and the ultra-wealthy. It blocks critical tax breaks for working families in Massachusetts and slashes billions in food assistance for hungry children and the elderly.
“The Republican plan also guts our education system and turns its back on our youngest learners. This budget slashes $19.6 million in funding for Massachusetts schools, and cuts off nearly 600 children from Head Start.
“Families who work hard and play by the rules deserve a fair shot, not a government that balances the budget on their backs.”
