WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement:
“Jewish students on college campuses are facing unprecedented antisemitism. When the presidents of Harvard, MIT, and UPenn testified before Congress, they should have unequivocally condemned attacks on the Jewish community and affirmed their commitment to fighting hate and protecting the security of all students. They have since apologized and acknowledged the fundamental truth that calling for genocide is dangerous and unacceptable.
“As private institutions, I believe it is up to the universities’ leadership and community members to determine how to move forward – not Members of Congress.
“The House Republican Majority has failed to put forward solutions to combat antisemitism. Instead of advancing funding for the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights or the White House’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism or calling out white supremacy when their own party promotes it, they are playing political games. Their hypocrisy is on full display.
“We must stop hate by standing up and speaking out. I remain committed to this fight and call on House Republicans to advance serious solutions.”
