WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ahead of a scheduled vote, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) laid out her opposition to House Republicans’ budget resolution — a proposal that would defund Bay Staters’ health care and hike grocery costs all to fund a tax cut for billionaires.
“The Republican budget can be summed up with this: More for billionaires, less for you,” said Whip Clark. “House Republicans want to defund nursing homes and gut children's health care so they can give billionaires a $4.5 trillion tax break. House Democrats are proud to vote no. Republicans must decide if they will stop this betrayal of working families and seniors today. Will they stand with their constituents or their billionaire donors?”
For Massachusetts, the House Republicans’ budget would:
- Kick 1.6 million residents off their health care — including 700,000 children and 200,000 seniors.
- Nearly double health care costs for the 312,000 residents who use the Affordable Care Act marketplace.
- Take food away from 1.2 million kids and families who rely on food assistance.
