Democrats, providers, and patients stand together in Nationwide Medicaid Day of Action
MALDEN, MA — Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) joined Democrats’ nationwide Medicaid Day of Action — gathering local physicians, patients, and health care leaders at the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) Malden Care Center to outline the devastating impacts of Republicans’ proposed cuts to Medicaid.
“Republicans are taking a chainsaw to the American people’s health care just to funnel money into the pockets of their billionaire campaign donors. Democrats are standing together to say: Not on our watch,” said Whip Clark. “Medicaid is the single largest health care provider in this country. Here in the Commonwealth, 20% of our hospital funding comes from Medicaid. It covers 2 million Bay Staters — including half of our kids and most of our neighbors with disabilities. Republicans might consider health care for veterans, moms, and babies ‘waste.’ But Democrats will never stop fighting to protect your access to affordable, quality care.”
The Republican budget aims to cut Medicaid by nearly $900 billion, a move that would threaten health care access for 80 million Americans.
In MA-5, Republicans’ plan to slash Medicaid funding would threaten the health coverage of 142,000 people — including 23,000 seniors and 60,000 children.
Today’s press conference included remarks from CHA CEO Dr. Assaad Sayah; Massachusetts Secretary of Health and Human Services Kate Walsh; Emily Dulong, Vice President of Government Advocacy & Public Policy at the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association; CHA Chief of Pediatrics Dr. Traci Brooks; and Sandra Valentini, the daughter of a CHA patient.
