Funding from the American Rescue Plan will help child care providers open safely, keep workers on payroll, and ensure that families can cover costs
Washington, D.C. – Assistant Speaker Clark announced today that Massachusetts child care providers will be receiving over $510 million to open safely, keep workers on the payroll and lower costs for hardworking families.
“Quality, affordable child care is essential to getting parents back to work and growing our economy,” said Assistant Speaker Clark. “Without adequate child care coverage, working parents - and especially moms - can’t fully recover from this pandemic and its economic fallout. The funding provided through the American Rescue Plan for child care facility upgrades, early educator compensation, and family subsidies will ensure that we are able to recover and rebuild a more inclusive economy for all.”
The funding comes as part of two programs Assistant Speaker Clark advocated for through the American Rescue Plan:
- $314,379,488 from the child care stabilization fund to help child care providers to reopen or stay open, provide safe and healthy learning environments, keep workers on payroll, and provide mental health supports for educators and children, and
- $ 196,164,566 in more flexible funding for Massachusetts to make child care more affordable for more families, increase access to high-quality care for families receiving subsidies, increase compensation for early childhood workers, and meet other care needs in the state.
The funding will go to the state that will allocate it to specific providers and families.
