Washington, DC - Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued the following statement on the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA decision, undermining the FDA’s approval of mifepristone.

“Extremism is being substituted for decades of proven science. MAGA Republicans are attacking mifepristone – a safe, FDA-approved medication – to fulfill their dark vision of a nationwide abortion ban. If this decision stands, women in every corner of this country would be stripped of reproductive freedom and access to basic health care: from abortions to miscarriage treatment. Women’s lives and health would be at risk. What’s more, this baseless decision poses an existential threat to the FDA’s authority to review and approve all safe and effective drugs. 

“Republicans have decided that women in America do not deserve personal freedom – that judges and politicians should make their most intimate life decisions. Democrats will not allow extremists to relegate women to second-class citizenship. We stand ready to defend reproductive freedom and defeat the GOP’s dangerous agenda.”
