Washington, D.C. – Today, Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark issued this statement on the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:
“Today, we lost a champion for working families. Richard Trumka dedicated his life to the labor movement and building an economy centered on fairness and equity.
“Richard’s fight for workers had no boundaries. He was an outspoken voice against discrimination and racism at home and around the world, understanding that inequality anywhere is a threat to equality everywhere.
“His legacy lives on in the labor movement and all of us working to build an economy that gives every worker a fair shot. I am very grateful for Richard’s leadership, and the blueprint he left for us to follow in the fight for workers’ rights. During this difficult time, my thoughts are with Richard’s loved ones, friends, and entire AFL-CIO family.”
