NATICK – Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark has secured almost $10 million for Natick Soldiers System Center as part of the $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill.
The bill passed the U.S. Senate and the House of Representatives and now awaits President Joseph Biden’s signature.
The $9.95 million is for three projects at the Natick center.
The U.S. Army Natick Soldier Systems Center (NSSC) is a Department of Defense (DoD) installation with the mission to protect and sustain America’s military forces.
The Natick Center is responsible for the technology, research, development, engineering, fielding, and sustainment of our military’s food, clothing, shelters, airdrop systems, and Soldier support items.
Included in the bill was:
- $2.89 million to advance the military exoskelton technology project.
- $3.56 million to repair & build 2 Doriot chambers
- $3.5 million for a small digital twin for robotic & sensor systems integration project
According to the Army, “Trademarked under the name “ONYX,” the exoskelton system is a powered, knee-based, mobility enhancing device that shows great potential for allowing Soldiers to stay in contact while maintaining peak performance longer, with equal or increased warfighting power. … The exoskeleton effort will initially focus on the challenges faced by Army Close Combat Forces.”
According to the Army the Doriot Climatic Chambers at Natick Soldier Research has successfully simulated virtually every climate in the world to test the performance of humans, materials and equipment.
