WASHINGTON, DC – Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark (MA-5) addressed the House making the below statement regarding today's oral arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The case is a challenge to Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban, a law that essentially outlaws abortion and sets the stage to overturn the constitutional right to an abortion established in Roe v. Wade.

"For almost 50 years, the right to abortion has been protected by the Constitution. Yet, in the last decade, state lawmakers have pushed through nearly 500 restrictive laws that make abortion difficult and sometimes impossible to access. This fight has reached a breaking point. Anti-abortion policies are about power and control: control over our bodies and control over our choices. Congress must pass the Women's Health Protection Act to protect the constitutional right to an abortion and ensure that all people have the freedom to control their own bodies. We will never back down from this fundamental fight for our rights."
