WATERTOWN, M.A. – On Tuesday, Assistant Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Katherine Clark (MA-5) visited Watertown to celebrate the American Rescue Plan's (ARPA) investment in the city's water infrastructure, including the removal of lead pipes. Clark was joined by State Representative Steve Owens, State Senator Will Brownsberger, Greg St. Louis, Superintendent of Public Works, and members of the Watertown City Council.

"We have long known the danger of lead pipes and the climate and financial risks of neglecting our infrastructure," said Assistant Speaker Clark. "Through American Rescue Plan funding secured by Democrats and President Biden, Watertown is removing dangerous lead pipes and improving stormwater infrastructure. In turn, we are improving the quality of drinking water and the quality of life for our residents. It was great to see firsthand how these federal dollars are being used to put people and our planet first."

Signed into law in March 2021, the American Rescue Plan has paved the way for America's rapid economic recovery. It provided free vaccines, reopened schools, helped small businesses stay afloat, and made direct investments in local community infrastructure, like the water improvements celebrated in Watertown, MA. Specifically, ARPA provided $150k to replace lead pipes and $250K to construct stormwater improvements to reduce flooding on the Watertown-Cambridge Greenway on Cottage Street.
