Local, state, and national leaders are calling for a change in immigration enforcement alongside local advocates and community leaders right here in Palm Beach County.
The roundtable conversation featured Rep. Lois Frankel, Florida Senate Minority Leader Lori Berman, House Democratic WHIP Katherine Clark, and Palm Beach County Commissioner Joel Flores.
They were joined by local school leaders, immigration outreach services, religious leaders, and an immigration attorney.
Community members said immigration enforcement has negatively impacted families and economies.
Immigration outreach leaders claim their clients, despite being law-abiding citizens, have been detained and are away from their families.
Commissioner Flores added that immigration enforcement efforts have also impacted the local economy in various industries, as more employees have been detained.
A Palm Beach County school board member also added that families are reluctant to bring kids to school, and they have seen instances of racial bullying among their students.
National and state leaders say they continue to seek the removal of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and insist on guardrails when it comes to immigration enforcement.
"We see you, we are in lock arms with you, your criticism is heard and accepted, and we are going to continue to fight. This is a moment to be brave, to be bold, and we are committed to doing that," Clark said.
In addition to this meeting, Clark said they will continue to conduct hearings to build a case for the impact of Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity across communities.
