Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark reminds us of the day that could have very well redefined American democracy.
In a statement marking five years since the January 6th insurrection, Clark doesn’t mince words as she recalls the violence and terror utilized by a mob, incited by then-President Donald Trump.

According to Clark's statement, obtained by the Office of the Democratic Whip, “Five years ago, a mob incited by Donald Trump attempted to use violence and terror to keep him in power." This reflection comes at a time when the nation marks 250 years of independence, and her words serve to underscore the test that was faced by America’s democratic resilience.

In her statement in the press release, Clark also criticizes the former president's actions in the aftermath of the insurrection.
She notes that "Since the insurrection, Trump has continued to mislead the American people and belittle the law enforcement officers who bravely defended our Capitol. He has pardoned the rioters, empowering many of them to commit more crimes, and lied about his assault on democracy."
