WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued the following statement on the second anniversary of the devastating shootings at three Asian-owned spas in Atlanta, Georgia that killed eight people:
“Two years after the horrific spa shootings in Atlanta, the vile rise in anti-Asian hate crimes continues to spur fear, anger, and grief in the Asian American community. In remembrance of the innocent lives stolen, we must continue to eradicate bigotry and violence in all forms.
“President Biden and Democrats proudly enacted the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act in the 117th Congress – providing the Department of Justice with the tools it needs to combat hate crimes more effectively. The new law is an important step forward in our fight for justice, but our work is far from over.
“Today and every day, House Democrats stand with the AAPI community and are committed to building a future where everyone feels respected and safe.”
