WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Whip Katherine Clark issued this statement following President Biden’s State of the Union Address:

“Tonight, President Biden highlighted for the American people what’s possible when families are front and center in Washington. 

“Under his leadership, Democrats in Congress pulled our nation from the darkest days of the pandemic into a period of renewed opportunity – with 12 million new jobs, the lowest unemployment rate in half a century, and wage growth that is now outpacing inflation. We enacted transformative investments in clean energy and our nation’s infrastructure, saved the child care sector, jumpstarted U.S. manufacturing, honored America’s commitment to our veterans, slashed health care costs for our seniors, and took action against the scourge of gun violence.

“Instead of building on this historic success, the MAGA Majority is putting politics over the American people – waging a dangerous assault on reproductive freedom, sticking up for the wealthy and well-connected, and risking economic catastrophe. 

“While Republicans have proven that they care about their own power above all else, Democrats will never walk away from the fight for working families.”
