WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) released the following statement on Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) announcing that he will retire from the House at the end of the term:
“The first Latino Member of Congress elected to represent the San Fernando Valley, Congressman Tony Cárdenas has led a career defined by trailblazing vision, grit, and devotion to his constituents.
“On the Energy and Commerce Committee, he has fought to lower prescription drug prices and ensure quality, affordable health care for working families nationwide. He has championed legislation to improve youth mental health, reform our criminal justice system, and combat climate change. He has also been a leader within the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, helping to improve representation in America and ensure all voices are heard in the halls of Congress.
“The House Democratic Caucus is grateful for his dedicated service and warm friendship. We wish him and his family the best in this next chapter.”
