Clark statement on Trump State of the Union address
Washington, D.C. -- Congresswoman Katherine Clark released the following statement:
“Americans have had one year under the Trump administration and a Republican led Congress, and all we have to show for it is a government that keeps the lights on four weeks at a time, a Republican Congress whose singular achievement is a tax scam benefiting their rich friends, and daily meltdowns and threats from the White House. America needs no further proof that Republicans are unfit to govern.
“If there is a silver lining, it is that average Americans have turned out in every corner of the country to be a necessary check on a president whose penchant for recklessness threatens our democracy and leadership in a global economy. Americans are ready to fight back and hold Republicans accountable for refusing to stand up to Trump’s recklessness and refusing to perform their basic duties to the American people.

“Americans will no longer stand by while Washington Republicans abdicate their responsibilities to fund the government, protect Dreamers, fight the opioid epidemic, address gun violence, create jobs and educational opportunities, develop clean energy, and repair our crumbling roads and bridges. I challenge my Republican colleagues to reverse course, work with Democrats on bipartisan solutions to our biggest challenges, or make way for those who will do the hard work of governing.”
