Clark: Republican shutdown of DHS cuts off snow recovery aid

Washington, D.C. -- Congresswoman Katherine Clark released the following statement regarding Friday’s potential shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):

“Our communities have been devastated by unprecedented snowfall. Homeowners, businesses, and cities and towns need help to recover, but the Republican plan to shut down the Department of Homeland Security, including FEMA, threatens that recovery. During a shutdown, FEMA will be unable to facilitate  disaster claims, damage assessments, data collection, and relief programs. It doesn’t have to be this way. If a bill to cleanly fund the Department of Homeland Security came up for a vote, it would pass. Instead, Speaker Boehner and the Republicans are playing politics with our homeland security and holding the recovery assistance Massachusetts so desperately needs hostage.”
