WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued the following statement after former House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced he will not run for re-election:
 
"House Democrats and the American people will always owe an immense debt of gratitude to Steny Hoyer. His lifetime of public service, in Annapolis and in Washington, has strengthened the country he loves and the democracy he reveres.
 
"Leader Hoyer's patriotism, wisdom, and statecraft have made their mark on virtually every major Democratic achievement of the past four decades. As an appropriator, Caucus Chair, Whip, Majority Leader, and voracious advocate for the people of Maryland, he has always steered us toward a more perfect union.
 
"The bridges he built throughout our Caucus and the coalitions he has forged across the Democratic Party will continue to make their impact felt for years to come. It is a privilege to call him a colleague, and I wish him and Elaine all the very best."
