Clark Cosponsors Minimum Wage Bill

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Katherine Clark co-sponsored the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2014 (H.R. 1010), legislation that will boost America’s economy over time by adjusting federal minimum wage standards.

“A strong and vital economic recovery cannot happen if we leave behind our lowest paid workers,” said Clark. “When workers are paid a living wage, that money is injected back into our economy as these hardworking individuals pay for their families’ basic necessities.  It’s not only the right thing to do, it benefits our whole economy.

“I find it deeply disturbing that women represent nearly two-thirds of minimum wage workers and are disproportionately harmed by outdated minimum wage standards.  For millions, planning for the future becomes impossible when struggling to meet the costs of childcare, housing or groceries.

“America’s workers deserve the very basic promise of respect, dignity and the ability to care for their families. We are long overdue on this promise, and Congress should work together to pass the Fair Minimum Wage Act.”

The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2014 raises the federal minimum wage to $10.10 per hour by 2015; adjusts the minimum wage to keep pace with the rising cost of living; and raises the minimum wage for tipped workers.
