Clark Statement on U.S. Farm Bill

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congresswoman Katherine Clark opposed H.R. 2642, also known as the Farm Bill. Clark released the following statement regarding her vote.

“For forty years, Congress has passed a Farm Bill without turning its back on the millions of children who go to bed hungry each night.  It is unacceptable for today’s Congress to subsidize Big Agriculture by slashing $8.7 billion in critical nutrition programs benefitting our communities’ neediest children.

“In eastern Massachusetts, more than 100,000 children are at risk of going hungry on any given day.  No family in Massachusetts or America should have to choose between keeping the lights on or putting food on the table for their children.

“Our children are our nation’s most valuable resource and they deserve a Congress that will go to work and fight for them.  This bill is a cynical attempt to balance the budget on the backs of our neediest children.

“Massachusetts families are disproportionately impacted by these cuts, and I will continue to fight for those who have been left behind by these draconian cuts.”
