Clark Votes to Protect Seniors’ Access to Care, Opposes Reckless GOP Medicare Proposal

Today, Congresswoman Katherine Clark voted to protect Massachusetts seniors by opposing a Republican attempt to hijack reforms that strengthen Medicare benefits. The original proposal to reform the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) represented months of bipartisan, bicameral work to preserve ongoing access to critical care for millions of Medicare recipients. That work was derailed when House Republicans inserted their 51st attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into the final bill before consideration. House Republicans are demanding a five year delay of the ACA’s individual mandate in exchange for benefits for seniors.

“Just as they led last year’s irresponsible government shutdown, House Republicans are willing to shut down critical care for seniors to satisfy their obsession with undermining the Affordable Care Act,” said Clark. “Instead of working with Democrats to pass real bills that actually help our seniors, House Republicans are determined to waste precious time on ideologically driven bills that will never become law. I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to pass lasting reforms that strengthen the benefits our seniors have earned and deserve.”
