Massachusetts’s all-Democratic congressional delegation wasted little time Thursday in celebrating the ouster Thursday of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who President Trump announced is being replaced by an Oklahoma lawmaker.
“Bye, Kristi,” wrote Democratic Whip Katherine Clarke, of Revere, in a message posted to X.
Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, of Boston, also weighed in.
“Goodbye and good riddance,“ Pressley posted to X. ”But don’t take the bait. Firing Noem alone won’t halt Trump’s campaign of terror. The atrocities happening by ICE behind the walls of detention facilities and in broad daylight have proven that ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE NOW.”
Senator Elizabeth Warren, of Cambridge, noted that Noem got the axe after a recent round of testimony before Congress.
“So let me get this straight: Trump fired Noem after she lied about spending over $200 million of taxpayer dollars on ads promoting herself," Warren posted to X. “But he wouldn’t lift a finger after two Americans were killed by her federal agents?”
Senator Ed Markey said via X that three other high-level Trump administration officials should leave as well.
“Donald Trump just fired Kristi Noem but this fight is far from over,” Markey wrote. “Steven Miller. Todd Lyons. Tom Homan. They ALL must go alongside their murderous agenda.”
Congressman Jim McGovern, of Worcester, jabbed Mullin for a now-infamous photo of the self-styled tough-guy ducking behind a chair during the Capitol insurrection of January 6, 2021.
“Great,” McGovern said via X. “They replaced the lady who shot her dog with the guy who hid behind a chair on January 6th."
Congressman Richie Neal, of Springfield, said Noem should’ve been terminated a while ago.
“This is long overdue,“ Neal posted to X. ”However, this does not change the fact that DHS needs serious reforms, and impartial investigations into the killings of two American citizens need to be conducted. We must defend the rule of law and the basic civil liberties that define our democracy."
