Democratic House Minority Whip Rep. Katherine Clark on Friday accused President Donald Trump of a cover-up for not releasing files from the investigation of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Clark, who has represented Massachusetts' 5th district since 2013, made the remarks during an interview for Sunday's episode of "On the Record."

"This was one of the principal promises that Donald Trump has made," Clark said. "Everybody's known that he's been associated with Jeffrey Epstein. But this 180 that he's done is a cover-up."

On the same day as Clark's interview, Ghislaine Maxwell finished one-and-a-half days of interviews Friday with U.S. Justice Department officials, answering questions “about 100 different people,” her attorney said.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year sentence at a low-security federal prison in Tallahassee after being convicted three years ago of helping Epstein, a wealthy, well-connected financier, sexually abuse underage girls.

Before leaving for Scotland, Trump was asked about the possibility of pardoning Maxwell.

"It's something I haven't thought about," Trump said. "I'm allowed to do it, but it's something I have not thought about."

The House Oversight Committee is planning to depose Maxwell next month.

Massachusetts Rep. Stephen Lynch expressed concerns about the leniency given to Epstein despite the number of victims willing to come forward.

"Why was such leniency given to Epstein, given the number of victims and the number of victims who were willing to come forward with their families?" Lynch said.

Clark also criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, for sending members home early before any vote could happen. She said the Epstein files are now a trust issue for the president.

"It's extremely damaging to them, and that is why they sent us home," Clark said, referring to Trump, Johnson and the Republican Party.
