WBUR: Rep. Katherine Clark On The Florida For-Profit Migrant Detention Facility

July 2, 2019

Massachusetts Congresswoman Katherine Clark just visited the Homestead detention center in Homestead, Florida, Tuesday.

It’s the only shelter for migrant children crossing the border that’s run by a private, for-profit company … and it’s a focus of controversy over living conditions and overcrowding.

New York Times investigation found that about half of the roughly 2,300 children detained there had been held longer than the 20-day legal standard, with some staying for weeks or months.
